Purpose of Assignment
To identify a performance issue within a health care organization that needs to change in order to promote better delivery of patient care; to demonstrate an ability to collaboratively problem-solve in an interdisciplinary environment while working towards the resolution of a common problem.
Student Approach to Assignment

This paper helped me to examine the quality improvement process for hospital-acquired pneumonia. As a vivid supporter of quality care, I was saddened to learn discouraging benchmarking statistics for St. Mary's Hospital, where I work. Hence, I explored my organization's most prominent healthcare quality concern, researched the problem, and sought evidence for best practices. Moreover, I theorized possible ways for nurses to continue searching for new evidence to improve patients' outcomes.

I chose this assignment as a position paper on a health issue because it demonstrates my ability to comprehensively evaluate the problem from different angles, identify practice variations, and offer possible improvement solutions. Also, this project shows my professional growth in appreciation of the quality of care.
