DIVERSITY:
CPD 408 GLOBAL LEADERSHIP

This course introduced me to the concepts and complexity of leadership in a globalized society and allowed me to apply leadership theory into practice. The aim was to teach me to become a leader who thinks globally, understands cultural diversity, is technologically confident, knows how to develop partnerships and cooperation, and can build people up. Various assignments simultaneously challenged my mindset and leadership skills and showed me to be a better global leader than at the beginning of the class.

I learned about the importance of being a socially responsible leader and the various aspects of effective leadership. I had the opportunity to dive into a deeper understanding of myself, my strengths and weaknesses, and contrast my traits with the portrait of a successful leader. I realized that being culturally different and thinking differently is not my weakness but my strength! Accepting my own cultural diversity could help me approach leadership challenges from a unique perspective and let me shine as an innovative and unconventional thinker.

One of the major assignments was to create a self-development plan for becoming a leader with global mindset intelligence. I examined various attributes of global mindset intelligence and how they incorporate into the leader. This project helped me to compare and contrast my skills and abilities against the perfectly successful global leader and formulate an improvement plan.

FUTURE GOALS

This course helped me to learn more about myself, my socialization skills, and my cultural and emotional intelligence. Because of the nature of my background, I always was conscientious about different cultures; however, by the end of this class, I acquired vast knowledge about diversity through interactions with my classmates. I learned to listen attentively to other perspectives and life experiences and seek all-inclusive solutions. I am confident that gaining expertise in respecting and accepting differences and emotional and cultural intelligence would help me become an influential organizational leader.
