Hello!

I began my RN-BSN journey in 2020 and have worked on several truly inspiring solo and collaborative projects. I take pride in my work and cherish the opportunity to learn from creative individuals. I firmly believe in working hard, working together, and having fun along the way! Explore my portfolio, and feel free to get in touch with any questions.

My Story

My name is Marina Sukharevich, and I am a post-licensure student. I have been a nurse for twelve years. I graduated from J. Sargeant Reynolds in Richmond, VA, with AAS in nursing, and this is my final semester of the RN-BSN program at Old Dominion University! It was a long road for me, and I am very excited to conquer my bachelor’s degree.

During the first three years of my career, I worked on a med-surge unit, where I quickly grew professionally and mastered my nursing skills. The fast-paced environment taught me patience, resilience, and time management. I always sought challenges and had eager to grow. After three years, I continued my nursing journey in the cardiac-surgical intensive care unit. Even though I am incredibly passionate about open-heart surgery patients, I have diverse critical care clinical skills. In 2017 I obtained my critical care certification; in 2021, I obtained my Cardiac Surgery Certification and ECMO management certification. I participate in the clinical ladder within my hospital and hold a Clinician III certification.

I am a preceptor to new hires and a mentor for raising ICU nurses. I am a superuser for all available devices within the unit. I started playing the charge nurse role while still working on the Med-Surge unit. Then, after a year of being in the ICU, I continued to play a charge nurse role within my department. I was chosen to participate in the pilot charge nurse leadership program, which gave me extensive insight into the executive leadership of the facility. This experience inspired me to pursue the goal of eventually becoming the executive leader of the hospital. Obtaining a bachelor's degree will get me closer to my optimal goal. This is not my final semester; I plan to further my education.

Moreover, I am an active member of the Unit Based Council and a chair of one of the Shared Governance councils within my hospital. I believe nursing is the main power of healthcare, and taking an opportunity to weigh into decision-making could change the future of nursing and patients. I am very passionate about team building, and  I believe the leader is good as their team. Nursing is a team sport, and solid and reliable teammates could make or break a day.

Besides nursing, I am a wife and a mother of three kids (18, 9, and 7), and we have a big labradoodle. I have been married for almost 20 years. I always saw myself as a person of many talents: I enjoy running, playing tennis and painting, reading, cross-stitching, and knitting. My hobbies allow me to recharge and get rid of stress. I have trained myself for two half-marathons and one 10k with time improvements. I love challenges; through challenges, I grow the most!

I look forward to graduating with my BSN degree and continuing my educational journey in nursing leadership!
